COORDINATOR: Good morning, everyone, and thank you for volunteering at Hilltop Community Garden. Before we start, I'd like to explain today's jobs and a few safety rules.
We have three main areas. The vegetable beds are straight ahead, beyond the wooden gate. That team will plant tomatoes and beans this morning. The fruit garden is on the left, beside the tool shed. Volunteers there will collect apples and remove any damaged fruit. Finally, the children's garden is behind the greenhouse. It needs new flowers along the path.
If you have not worked here before, please begin in the vegetable beds with Marcus. He will show you how deep to plant everything. Experienced volunteers can help Nina in the fruit garden. Anyone who enjoys painting can work on the signs for the children's garden; meet Carla at the picnic tables.
You'll find gloves in the tool shed, but please bring your own sun hat. We provide drinking water, tea, and coffee. Lunch is at one o'clock and will be served in the greenhouse because rain is expected. The work finishes at three thirty.
Please do not use the electric cutting tools unless a coordinator is with you. If you hurt yourself, even slightly, tell Marcus or come to the first-aid box beside the office door. At the end of the day, return all tools to the shed and write your name in the volunteer book. Thank you, and let's get started.
